The Research And Investigation In Health Cognition And Health Care Needs Of Prisioners

Objective:This study through investigating health cognition and health care needs of prisoners from five prisons of some city, analyze the current situation and main influential factors. On that base, provide relevant countermeasures and suggestions, which for further research about health cognition and health care needs of prisoners.Methods:A self-designed questionnaire was used to investigate 200 prisoners from five prisons of some city from September 2010 to May 2011. The questionnaire included general data, health cognition and health care needs. All data were collected and analyzed by SPSS 13.0 with the statistical methods.Results:1.34.9% of the prisoners understand the concept of health correctly,65.1% of prisoners didn't understand the concept correctly.2.43.3% of the prisoners had got health knowledge. Within the knowledge of chronic disease prevention,42.8% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on hypertension, 41.8% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on diabetes,40.2% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on coronary heart disease. Within the knowledge of infectious disease prevention,38.7% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on tuberculosis, 39.0% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on HAV&HBV, and 53.5% of prisoners had got prevention knowledge on HIV/AIDS.3. Different gender of prisoners on the prevention knowledge of diabetes and AIDS are significant differences, different age of prisoners on the prevention knowledge of tuberculosis and AIDS are significant differences, different degree of education of prisoners on the prevention knowledge of diabetes,coronary heart disease,tuberculosis and AIDS were significant differences.4. The top seven of more than 30% of the need rate of prisoners'health care needs from highest to lowest were improving food supply and providing reasonable nutrition, providing plenty of water and basic environment, providing basic essential drugs, providing periodic physical examination, providing psychological counseling services, providing prevention vaccination and preventing infectious diseases spread, providing common diseases counseling and providing specialist visit regularly.5. Different gender of prisoners on the health care needs in improving food supply and providing reasonable nutrition and providing essential drugs are significant differences, different age of the prisoners on the health care needs in the restored to health training and cancer prevention of men or women are significant differences, different degree of education of prisoners on the health care needs in the prevention of common diseases of menopause are significant differences, different be served a sentence time of prisoners on the health care needs in the common disease of men or women and cancer prevention of men or women are significant differences.Conclusion:1. Most of the prisoners didn't understand the concept of health correctly.2. The prisoners had got low health knowledge rate.3. Gender, age, and degree of education were the main factors that influencing the prisoners' health cognition.4. Prisoners' health care needs were improving the quality of food, providing plenty of water and basic environment, providing basic essential drugs, providing periodic physical examination, providing psychological counseling services, providing prevention vaccination, preventing infectious diseases spread, providing common diseases counseling and providing specialist visit regularly.5. Gender, age, degree of education and be served a sentence time were the main factors that influencing the prisoners'health cognition and health care needs.
