ObjectiveBased on theories of TCM and combined with modern research results, this research is to observe the clinical efficacy of Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points cooperated with Re-moxibustion for Treating Lumbar Intervertebral Disc Protrusion (LIDP), and to investigate its mechanism. So as to provide a characteristic therapy of TCM and clinical evidence for LIDP treated by acupuncture and moxibustion.MethodsAccording to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, fifty patients with LIDP were selected and randomly divided into two groups:the treatment group (25cases), treated by Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points cooperated with Re-moxibustion; the control group(25cases),just treated by Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points. After four courses of treatment, evaluated the curative effect of the two methods, "cured", "effective" and "ineffectual" were applied as standard of curative effect; "Japanese Orthopaedic Association Scores of Lower Back Pain (JOA Scoring)" and "Visual Analogue Score" were applied as quantization. Before-treatment and post-treatment were analysis by group comparison. SPSS17.0 was used to do statistic analyze.Results(1)By analysis of statistics before the treatment, there was no significant difference in age, sex, course, syndrome types of TCM, the scores of VAS and JOA between the two groups (P> 0.05).(2)Clinical effect:The total effective rate of the treatment group (25cases) was 96.0%, and the total effective rate of the control group(25cases) was 84.0%, in which, there was significant difference between the two groups (rank sum test:P< 0.05), so the curative effect of the treatment group was better than that of the control group.(3) Intra-group comparisons of VAS scores showed very significant difference before and after treatment (Paired Samples Test:P< 0.01); After treatment, the comparison of VAS scores showed significant difference between the two groups (Independent Samples Test:P< 0.05). So the improve rate of VAS in treatment group was better than that of the control group.(4)Intra-group comparisons of JOA scores showed very significant difference before and after treatment (Paired Samples Test:P< 0.01); After treatment, the comparison of JOA scores showed very significant difference between the two groups (Independent Samples Test:P< 0.01). So the improve rate of JOA in treatment group was much better than that of the control group.Conclusion(1)Both methods can treat LIDP with good effect, but Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points cooperated with Re-moxibustion was better than just Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points at alleviating pain, improving the patient's clinical symptoms and life quality.(2)The results also suggested that Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji and Re-moxibustion might have a synergetic effect on the treatment of LIDP.(3)The curative effect of Acupuncture of Lumbar Jiaji Points cooperated with Re-moxibustion in the treatment of LIDP is stable and sustained. It can receive high cure rate with mild side effect, thus accepted readily by the patients. This method is worth popularizing clinically and shoud be thoroughly studied because of its effective action on LIDP.
