Phytochemical investigation of the fresh fruit of Physalis alkekengi L. var. franchetiMast.) Makin (Solanaceae), led to the isolation and structural elucidation of a newphysalin (5a,6b-dihydroxyphysalin C) and nineteen known compounds. Their structureswere identified as: Linoleic acid (1), 2-((2-ethylhex- yloxy)carbonyl) benzoic acid (2), b-Sitosterol (3), Butanedioic anhydride (5), Citric acid (6), b-Daucosterol (7), D-glucose (8),9,12-Octadecadienoic acid ethyl ester (10), Physalin A (11), 1-O-b-D-glucopyra- nosyl-N-(2′-hydroxypalmitoyl) octadecasphinga-4,8-dienine (12), Physalin D (14), Succinicacid (16), 4,7-didehydrophysalin B (17), 1-Citric acid ethyl ester (18), 1-Citric acidmethyl ester (19), 4,7-didehydroneophysalin B (20), 5a,6b-dihydroxyphysalin C (21),saccharose (22), 5-(hydroxylmethyl)furan-2-carbald-ehyde (24) and cyclo-(L-leuc- yl-Lisoleucyl)(26), via spectroscopic tests (HRESI-MS, GC-MS, IR, UV-VIS, 1D and 2DHMR). On the basis of (DPPH?) assay, the anti-oxidant activities of compound 4, 11, 12,14, 17, 21 were investigated. 11 showed appreciable anti-oxidant activity.Investigation of Harmonia axyridis (family Coccinella), also known as Ladybird, ledthe isolation and structural elucidation of eight known compounds. Their structureswere identified as: Octadecanoic acid (31), Cholesterol (32), Dibutyl phthalate (33),Phenylalanine (38), Leucine (39), Isoleucine (40), Valin (41) and Alanine (42), viaspectroscopic tests (HRESI-MS, GC-MS, IR, UV-VIS, 1D and 2D HMR).
