Objective With the extension of the human average life expectancy, more and more attention was paid to quality of life. This study aims to learn the quality of life of urban and rural residents in Hubei Province, and to explore the risk factors, in order to improve medical and health policy to improve the quality of life for people.Method A total number of 3,355 urban and rural residents were involved into the study using random sampling. Group surveys were used in the investigation. All of the statistical analysis were done with SPSS 12.0 statistical software. As the variables included continuous variables and classification variables, parameter and non-parameter method were both used to describe the samples. The comparative test and analysis was done by T-test and ANOVA, while the non-normally distributed continuous data were compared using Chi-square test. Generalized linear regression model was established to explore the related factors of quality of life; Canonical correlation analysis was used to confirm the relationship between the health-related quality of life and sleep status. Structural equation model was used to explore the relationship between the quality of life and the related factors.Result Scores of all domains for quality of life were differently distributed in different age groups, education, marital status, living situation, occupational distribution; sleep scores and fatigue scores were tested differently distribute between demographic characteristics separately; scores of all domains were significantly different from the norm(p<0.0001); the related factors of quality of life were residence, gender, age, occupation, education level, marital status, living company, sleep score and fatigue score according to generalized linear regression model; Subjective sleep quality, sleep disorders had negative influence on general health status by canonical correlation analysis. In the structural equation model, fatigue and sleep affected the quality of life, and the the standard coefficients are -0.25 and -0.17 respectively. The standard coefficient of the impact of lifestyle on the quality of life was -0.13, marital status, and social status also affected the impact on quality of life were -0.82 and -0.48. so life style, fatigue, sleep, marital status and social status were the realted factors of the quality of life. Conclusion Compared with the norm in China, the scores of quality of life of rural residents in Hubei Province were significantly different. The quality of life was affected by many factors, including fatigue and sleep as the most important factors. In order to improve the quality of life, we should promote suitable work habits to reduce the fatigue and improve sleep quality.
