OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the clinical effect of "Choudongling Granule" in treating childhood Gilles de la Tourette syndrome; To compare with the curative effect of the Chinese medicine-"Choudongling Granule" and that of the western medicine—Tiapride; To compare with the side effect of the Chinese medicine—"Choudongling Granule" and that of western medicine—Tiapride.METHODS:The 60 patients with childhood Gilles de la Tourette syndrome treated between January 2006 and February 2007 were randomized into two groups:the treatment group in which 30 cases were treated by "Choudongling Granule" and control group in which 30 cases were treated by Tiapride, with a course of 4 weeks; the curative effect and side effect were observed.RESULTS:In the treatment group the disease and the TCM syndrome total effective rate were 86.67% and 93.33%, otherwise in control group the disease and the TCM syndrome total effective rate were 83.33% and 86.67%. Although there is no obvious difference in curative effect, the treatment group had no side effect and the rate of side effect in control group was 10%.CONCLUSION:The clinical curative effect of childhood Gilles de la Tourette syndrome treated with the Chinese medicine—"Choudongling Granule" is obvious and it has no side effect.
