Objective:To investigate the curative effect of Tourette Syndrome(TS) by integrative Chinese and western medicine. Methods:Ninety patients of TS were randomly divided into two groups:The treated group (60 patients) was treated with Granules of Ningdong plus the tablets of haloperidol, while the control group (30 patients) was treated only with the tablets of haloperidol. The course for both groups was 6 months. We evaluated clinical symptoms,short-term curative effect, adverse reactions, and also traced out the long-term curative effect of the patients six months later after the treatment by Yale Global Tic Severity Scale (YGTSS).Results:Of the 60 patients in the treatment group, the treatment on 36 was evaluated as remarkably effective,21 as effective, and 3 as ineffective, the total effective rate being 95.0%(57/60),while that in the control group was remarkably effective in 9,effective in 13,ineffective in 8 respectively, and the total effective rate 73.3%(22/30),the difference on total effective rate between the two groups was significant (χ~2=6.85,p<0.01).Besides,the improvement in the treatment group was superior to that in the control group in terms of clinical symptoms, motor tics, vocal tics, and long-term curative effect (p<0.01); the adverse reaction rate (13.3% vs 36.7%,p<0.05),the recurrence rate (8.3% vs 43.3%,p<0.01).Conclusion:Integrative Chinese and western medicine for TS is effective and safe.
