Thyroid nodule is a common disease of the endocrine system. The incidence of thyroid nodule is increasing day by day. Found by palpation of the general population prevalence rate of 4% to 8%, using high-resolution B-sonography, the prevalence is 20% to 67%.Thyroid nodule is a disease which is affecting the quality of life seriously. Traditional Chinese medicine have no this disease, mainly belonging to the "gall disease", "gall tumor" and so on. Generally, thyroid nodule is due to congenital deficiency or bad emotion, geographical and environmental factors, diet factor, injury of vital qi, chronic diseases and loss of treatment. These elements cause the dysfunction of liver and spleen, the liver obstructing and the spleen loses transportation. Qi stasis and body fluid stasis lead to the production of phlegm. In the course of time, the stringer is not smooth. Qi stagnation, phlegm gather and blood stasis cross resistance, producing nodules located anterolateral cervical finally. Western medicine primarily includes drug therapy and surgical treatment, but both have defects which are difficult to overcome. Based on years of clinical experience, professor Gao propose that insufficiency of vital qi and dysfunction of liver and spleen are the fundamental factors of the occurrence of thyroid nodule. About treatment, mentor identifies xu and shi, treats by stages, combines Traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine, so the side-effects of western medicine and relapse rate are reducing availably. In a word, the clinical therapeutic effects are significant.
