With the modernization of the city, urban transportation vehicles also increase rapidly, the traffic congestion has become one of the major problems of urban development. The emergence of intelligent transportation system which is playing an important role in urban transportation construction can effectively solve this problem. Into the new century, the difficulty of urban transportation construction is greater and greater, with the development of intelligent transportation system, the urban traffic system which builds efficiently,safely is crucial. As one of the most important part of intelligent transportation system, the traffic flow detection system has also been self-perfection and self-development. At present the technology of the traffic flow detection devices which has wide application prospect has become matured, and the installation and debugging is also very convenient.Based on the operational principle and the functions of traffic flow detection radar, I studied and presented a series of software and hardware algorithms of digital radar technique, and then solve many key practical questions, in order to develop a high precision, good stability, wholly.Digital radar has important status in development of radar system, based on the the application in digitized radar technology, the practical application of digital radar technology in traffic flow detection radar system is introduced in the article. Meanwhile, the hardware design and software design of traffic flow detection radar which based on FPGA are discussed in detail.FPGA uses Cyclone III EP3C25 which has the advantage of high reliability, low cost, low power. At first, the core component FPGA of the circuit board is introduced. Then, the article has elaborated detailed the problems from signal modulation, A/D sampling and External Memory Interface, triangular wave generation, communication interface, real-time clock, power source and reset circuit. The practical application of the system shows the stability and functionality of the circuit board. This paper contains:1. Study of ranging principle and algorithm in improving precision in LFMCW radar2. Based on practical situation and ranging principle, the hardware design and the project of software are proposed by using LFMCW.3. According to the performance indexes of traffic flow detection devices, I will design the hardware debug circuit board and write software.4.
