Compared with traditional AC transmission, HVDC has a lot of incomparable advantages in many aspects and can satisfy the increasing electricity requirement, so it has received more and more importance of the electricity engineering. But with the extensive use of the HVDC system, two problems have appeared. On the one hand, passive filters especially double-tuned filters have been repeated use to suppress the power system harmonics generated by non-linear power electronic components, how to design the parameters of the filter has a great effect with the system performance. On the other hand, in order to insure normal operation of the AC filter in grid transmission system, the relay protection is essential. So in this paper, it gave more attention on how to design AC filter and how to give it a comprehensive relay protection.In this paper, it analyzed the parameter design method of the filter bank based on minimal capacitor installed capacity firstly. Secondly it used SAPSO based on the frontal method to design the parameters of the filter bank which contains two-inductor parallel type of double-tuned filter and two-capacitor parallel type of double-tuned filter, then the result was simulated by PSCAD. Thirdly, based on analyzing the faults of AC double-tuned filter in the HVDC system, it discussed the relay protection solutions such as differential protection, capacitor imbalance protection and so on, and these relay protection solutions were also simulated by PSCAD to testify their efficiency. At last, it designed the microcomputer protection system based on the high-performance MCU C8051F005, specifically, it designed signal acquisition module and switching value control module. It also analyzed the algorithm of microcomputer protection, and gave the flow of main procedure, signal sampling procedure, fault calculation procedure, liquid crystal display procedure and the display interface.
