Numbers and letters handwriting recognition technology has a broad perspective of application in office automation, file retrieval, post system, and so on. This paper introduces the actual background, the theory meaning and the research work on handwritten numeral recognition. Object Recognition has its own complexity, which makes it difficult to implement the current recognition system. However, the wide demands for the implementation of this technology in real life make it very hot in this domain for all time.Currently, the main methods for numbers and letters recognition include rule-based approach, SVM and neural network. Support Vector Machine is a new technology in the field of pattern recognition in recent years. Since nineties of the last century, SVM has been widely used in language and face recognition, which is the most popular method in the field of handwritten numeral recognition.This paper takes the advantages of support vector machine to identify the numbers and letters. It can use the existing feature extraction methods or find a better one to develop software of figure and letters recognition in the existing mobile platform, so it can use the cell phone's mobility and convenience of data transmitting to identify the figure information from the cell phone by the software of figure and letters recognition, and then the phone sends the information to the user terminal. This makes it easy for logistics management, saving labor costs, and improving production efficiency.
