This article focuses on the development trend of news comments published in the Chinese print media during the past thirty years (after the reform-and-opening policy). By using both quantitative and qualitative methods, the author illustrates how the styles of news comments have changed. Combining the analysis of paths and profound factors of economic and social evolution of contemporary China, as well as the media competitive environment, the research draws the following conclusions: the styles of news editorial and comments tend to be more flexible, more professional, and open to the public to discuss. What's worth mentioning, the special type of report which combination of news and comments together grows very fast. The Chinese citizens not only use news comments to obtain effective message, but also as the channel to convey their own voice. Although the online comment pattern has a huge impact on these changes, the key reason lies in fast development of market economy led by the reform and opening policies. Along with the economy growth, citizens demand more and more high quality information, that's why the styles and patterns of news comments in the print media appear to be what they are nowadays.
