In the 21 century, the market competiton becomes more and more vehemence, and the change of customers' need to the merchandise changes much faster. All these force products' renewal more and more quick. So higher request is put forward to the product development of enterprise. To improve the competition and development, more and more enterprises adopt the mass customization production mode.In the Mass Customization, whichever company want to win,it must be fast in developing new products. To improve the efficiency of design and manufacture,we must reuse the ripe products. In this paper, we built a recycling design system for mechanical parts. The main work of the dissertation is as follows:Chapter 1 gives a review and history of the development situation of the reuse of parts' design. It gives an arrangement to the thesis contents.Chapter 2 gives a review of the application tools and methods, such as UG/MenuScript,UIStyler,UG/Open API and so on.It also introduces the API functions.Chapter 3 puts forward the model-category method and a set of expressions of data structure description in the category layer, according to the construction of the recycling-parts database. It introduces the function and the representative system of parts' category and coding system.Based on the OPITZ system,a system which support building the parts' database layer by layer is built.Chapter 4 introduces the description and classification of parts, gives a way to fix on the similar matrix and quotiety, and puts forward a searching way of similar parts on different layer.Chapter 5 builds a recycling design system for mechanical parts with Unigraphics as the platform. And its frame, main modules and realization are also explained. Finally, conclusions are given along with recommendations for future research in chapter 6.
