Overseas Chinese Media And Development Studies

Overseas Chinese mass media, the major source of information and platform of public opinion, are one of the pillars to support oversea Chinese community with overseas mass organizations and overseas Chinese schools. They are the extension of the Chinese civilization and an organic part of the overseas Chinese cultural cause. Having been playing an increasingly important part in the local places and host countries, overseas Chinese mass media have become a highlight in field of journalism in the world.Long in history of development, big in number, overseas Chinese mass media are quite peculiar in journalism of the world. Where there are overseas Chinese people there are overseas Chinese mass media deeply rooted in every oversea Chinese to enhance the Chinese culture. As a bridge of communication and an adherent to unite all Chinese in the word, oversea Chinese mass media have been the nucleus to defend the national honor and the unification of our mother land.With the arrival of information era characterized by digital transmission from the late 20th century, the overseas Chinese mass media have been challenged and affected in a restrained operational market.In a word influenced by globalization, researchers in many countries are paying attention to the maintenance and development of overseas Chinese mass media. The following issues are urgent: how to keep contact and communication between oversea Chinese and the motherland, how to strengthen the national consciousness to promote the unification of the motherland, how to make further use of oversea Chinese mass media in cross-cultural transmission, how to carry on and spread the traditional Chinese culture in a multi-cultural world, how to foster the international image of China. Therefore, the study of oversea Chinese mass media is of significance.By analyzing the present situation, basic features and problems to be solved, and exploring the developmental tendency of overseas Chinese mass media, a suggestion concerning the sustainable development of overseas Chinese mass media is proposed in the thesis.
