The wireless mobile networking that we usually mentioned has not a fixed center and hence it has to be operated based on networking infrastructures previously constructed. However, sometimes it is incompetent for the wireless networking. At this time communication is independent on any networking infrastructures previously constructed and we need a kind of mobile networking which can be self- organized as soon as possible. Fortunately, Ad Hoc networking is content for these applications.Ad Hoc networking is also called "multi-hop wireless networking" or "self- organized networking". It features as self-organized, multi-hop, active-topologies and operated without a fixed base. So this wireless networking is often applied in the special situations like in the battlefield, rescue or sudden disaster spots and alike. Besides, the digitize troop also apply the technique to the modern battlefield. As a wireless mobile networking, routing protocols are its important parts and focus of study. In consideration of the continuous changes of the topology of the network, which due to the random move of each node in Ad Hoc network, the traditional Internet routing protocols (such as RIP,OSPF etc.) can't adapt Ad Hoc network, so a special routing protocols must been designed exclusively for Ad Hoc network. Now,many routing protocols have already been designed for Ad Hoc network, such as the DSDV, DSR, TORA and AODV etc.. To realize and verify these routing protocols has become one important part of content in the research of this field. This paper consists of 6 chapters with their main ideas as follows: Chapter 1 Foreword. A brief introduction is given to the definition, origin and the features of Ad Hoc network. Also it's current situation of the research, the application fields, the textual research work and research features etc. are introduced.Chapter 2 The typical unicast routing protocols of Ad Hoc network. this chapter focuses on a detailed theoretical analysis on the existed typical unicast routing protocols(such as DSDV,AODV,DSR and TORA)and a brief compare is made among them.Chapter 3 the multicast routing protocols of Ad Hoc network. Simply introduced some common multicast routing protocols, and make a simple comparison in theory.Chapter 4 NS-2 and network routing protocols simulate. Simple introduction of NS-2 is given first, then comes the hierarchy of NS-2,the method of network simulation, wireless mobile node simulate model and the method of setting up the NS-2 simulate platform.Chapter 5 The realization of routing protocols and the study of NS-2 simulation. Great emphasis is placed on the realization of the typical routing protocols (such as DSDV, AODV, DSR and TORA) based on NS-2. The details are provided in how to design the program for simulation based on NS-2, how to analyze and compare the trace files, and how to compare the merit and shortcoming of each routing protocols. Then compare the result of simulation with the one provided in theories, thus the suggestion can be given to the appropriate application of each routing protocols in different situations.Chapter 6 Conclusion. To summarize the research done by far, existent problem, and display the outlook for the future work.
