The dynamic routing protocols applied in current wired network are quite mature. Each type of these protocols has its own advantages and shortnesses, with different application areas and characters.Mobilility get better and better support by wireless network, which can be classified into 2 categories in terms of infrastructure: one is network with infrastructure such as WLAN; the other is wireless network without infrastructure. For instance, AD-HOC, a self-build wireless network without infrastructure, due highly flexibility and ease of setting up, AD-HOC has broad application perspective in military or commercial telecommunication, business or office application environment and family entertainment etc. There currently have 3 kinds of dynamic routing protocols and arithmetics adaptive to AD-HOC:1. Table-driven routing protocol: DSDV, HSR, GSR, WRP;2. On-Demand routing protocol. AODV, DSR, TORA;3. Clustering routing protocol. ZRP.This paper is targeted to research and evaluate above kinds AD-HOC routing protocols, and mainly focus on On-Demand routing protocol. Considering the characteristics of none-infrastructure wireless network, including quick changing of topology, limited bandwidth, capacities of terminal battery, the dynamic routing protocols' research will focus on how to minimize the power consuming andbandwidth occupation of control instruction. To reduce the negative impact produced by AD-HOC dynamic routing protocols, In On-Demand routing protocols' arithmetic, control instructions are sent out to set up and maintain a session, only when node need to send packets. Though On-Demand routing protocols introduce less extra payload compared with traditional routing protocols arithmetic, there still are some limitation in other performances. In a network with frequently changing topology, long delay was caused by frequently out-going routing sort, thus impact the transmission performance of network. This paper uses OPNET Modeler 10.0 to simulate typical DSR in AD-HOC network, mainly research the correlation between 2 key factors, highly loaded traffic and topology change of network, and evaluate application features and practical value of DRS in AD-HOC network. In model of network with stable topology, we research the concurrent performance and network, as well as node state information caused by large data file transfer, printer shareing, video conference, and Voice over IP, learn the application features of DSR protocol in a topology-stable and highly loaded network. In model of network with frequently changing topology, we research the performance of small data file transfer, network and node state information, learn the application features of DSR protocol in a lower loaded and topology always change network.
