Historicism is resistance of the pure rationalism of the Enlightenment and steppedonto the stage of history. It advocated against Enlightenment rationalism history of thetheory of natural law of humanity and all nations generally unchangeable. It stressedthat every nation, age and cultural uniformity all have their own unique value becauseof the different internal mechanisms and external conditions. Thus, we should graspanything in the process of historical development, and judge things value dependingon theirs history. Opposes arbitrary, but also against the mechanical rigidity, but berealistic and objective view of history. The theory pass though a long developmentprocess, which experienced a focus on historical evidence, positive Leopold vonRanke times, Dilthey has been, Croee and others too subjective to the road until theMarxist era, Also back will be a historical objective, materialist path.Archival science theories consist of files collection theory and identificationtheory. This paper attempts to show that Western archival science theories wereaffected by historicism, meanwhile, the development of archival science theories havea profound internal relationship with the development of historicism. According to its'characteristics, historicism can be devided into historical positivism, subjective andMarxism historicism. It has a profound impact on the Archival science theories.Jenkinson's evidence thinking corresponds with positivism historicism; Brennecke'sfreedom provenance principle corresponds to subjective historicism; structuring therecords continuum corresponds to Marxism historieism. The results show thatmainstream philosophical theories have a direct impact on the contemporary'Archival science theories, and indirect impact on practice, that makes Westernarchival science theories become the miniature of mainstream philosophy; Secondly, this result tells us that we must adhere to Marxism historicism in current and futureArchival science theories research.Archives has natural relationship with history, it is the most primitive record ofhuman social activities. The aim to retain records is to preserve the memory of humansociety and history. The basic function of archives is to record and reappear history, historical archives have such social functions as history preserving, culturalaccumulation, and civilization spreading. Historieism should be the fundamentalprinciple of Archival science theories which is determined by the purpose of thepreservation of records and archives social function. Since Last century, the mid-1980s,the research of electronic records management didn't adhere to thisimportant principle, on other way round, Some academics have even suggested thatelectronic record management should be knowledge management alternatives. In ouropinion, to the study and practice of Archival science, If we only emphasized its"knowledge management" (cultural accumulation), or the "exchange of information"(civilization spread) attributes, weaken and undermine the principles and methods ofHistoricism, archives and ordinary files must be confused, which will affect theindependence of Archival science, thus guiding the wrong direction of Archivesmanagement (especially the emerging electronic records management).Establishhistoricism as Archival science guiding ideology will enrich the existing archivalscience basic theory, Moreover, will have far-reaching impact on the principles andmethods of the practice of Archival management (especially electronic recordsmanagement).
