The Application Of Automatic Identification Technology In The Digital Library Management System

Automatic identification technology is the important mean to identify datum and input them to computer automatically. It contains automatic identification technology and data collection technology. Now, automatic identification technology has become the high new technology composed with electrical technology, computer technology, communication technology and machine technology etc. It includes bar code identification technology, RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) technology, the identification technology of magnetic card, the technology of optical character recognition (OCR), biological identification technology, sound identification technology, visual identification technology and picture identification technology. Automatic identification technology offers the fast and accurate data collection means for the application of computer in many fields. Automatic identification technology solves the bottleneck problem when the data is inputted into computer and develops the computer function fully.Since the end of last century, most college libraries in china have transformed from traditional libraries into digital ones gradually. Some kinds of automatic identification technology such as bar code identification technology, optical character recognition (OCR) etc, are also applied in the digital library development. The application of the bar code identification technology is in mature stage. It is applied in every link in library management. But along with the improvement of reader requirements, it is asked more convenient, effective management technologies be applied in the construction of digital libraries. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) is a kind of radio technology applied inthe area of automatic identification. In recent years, RFID was applied extensively and showed its advantage gradually in automatic identification technology field.First, according to the requirement of building digital library, this paper emphasizes the important position of automatic identification technology in digital library management. Second, this paper introduces the development stages, situation, foreground and problems of automatic identification technology application at home and abroad. This paper introduces some kinds of automatic identification technology and contrasts their advantage and disadvantage. The paper points out the superiority of RFID applied in digital library management. Third, according to the current situation of library management in Kunming University of Science & Technology, author makes the requirement analysis of MIS (Management Information System) in library and designs the construction, function modules of MIS. Author studies automatic identification technology applied in library MIS generally and researches the key points of Business Process Reengineering in library with the RFID system implementation. Author hopes this paper have certain reference value and guidance function for the digital transformation of library in Kunming University of science & technology.
