With the applications of the data-collection systerm, information appliance and embedded system, users put forward more and more requirements to the data storage: the faster rate, larger capacity, higher reliability and stabilization and better mobilization. There are higher requirements for high-rate, bulky, portable, and simple-interface memory.In the embedded system, bidirectional transfer of data and file exist between many embedded products and the server. Due to the great difference between the products, it's necessary to consider the designment of the memory module every time when we devise a product. In this condition, it becomes so important to get a universal memory module that can be used in various products.Under this background, this paper designed two kinds of memory module to meet the increasing demand of the mobile memory field. It introduces some background knowledge used in the designment of the system, then gives two kinds of solutions.The first solution is the module with a singlechip reading from and writing to the U-Disk. With the singlechip as CPU, it completes the bidirectional data transfer through operating the U-Disk. And in this process, the singlechip of W78E58B controls the SL811HS, which is an USB-HOST chip made by CYPRESS Corp. This module supports the USB1.1 protocol and customs a set of commands for serial interface. It accesses the files in U-Disk and complete the reading and writing operation with these commands.The second one is a memory module based on NOR Flash, which completes data and file transfer between server and client through RS-232C. The type of the Flash used is TE28F128J3, which is a NOR Flash produced by INTEL and dominant in the market. It has a capability of 128Mbits.Both of two memory modules developed in this project meet the requirements of data storage in embedded system, and have got a good effect in the application.
