Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV)is non-man-operated automatic transport machine. It has many advantages such as high transport efficiency, saving energy, working reliability, transport flexibility, etc. It has been applied to many fields which include flexible manufacturing line, automatic transport line, automatic warehouse and so on.On the basis of referring relevant information of Chinese and other foreign language, in this paper, the state-of-art of AGV is introduced comprehensively. The feature and types of AGV and the technical construction of AGV system are analyzed systematically; and some key technologies are also emphasized.In this system, an embedded system is used to control AGV's actions; two brushless direct motors are used to drive it move; a stepping motor is the driver of carrying system; and the optical system guide it along the pre-designated path. Some technology is emphatically solved such as gathering and handling of optical signal to measure the speed of wheels, controlling the speed of the driving-wheels by the intelligent PID controlling method, speed-changing control of stepping-motor, gathering and handling of optical signal to guide the AGV, and checking of AGV's position automatically. In order to improve the reliability of the AGV system, anti-interference measures are used in the design of software and hardware. The designing of circuit has been carried out, emulator has been programmed and at last the system has been tested on spot.
