Virtual Machining is a very important part in systematized techniques about Virtual Manufacturing. It requests an immersible 3D virtual machining environment which supplies panoramic, integrated simulation and analysis for the processing of product so as to evaluate the rationality of machining process parameters and the machining quality of product.In this paper, a reconfigurable and extendable Virtual Machining architecture is put forward based on the detail analysis of the request for Virtual Machining made by Virtual Manufacturing. The key technologies related to realize virtual machining are also discussed, among which the modeling of reconfigurable Virtual Machining Environment is the base and the difficult point.In order to implement the modeling of reconfigurable Virtual Machining Environment, an efficient virtual machining environment hierarchical modeling method supporting reconfiguration is put forward based on analysis of requirements and characteristics of reconfigurable 3D virtual machining environment modeling. Four subjects of the modeling of reconfigurable Virtual Machining Environment including geometry modeling of reusable part and component, simulation modeling of reusable part and component, modeling of virtual machining device and design of data management system in reconfigurable Virtual Machining Environment are studied and configured by Object-Oriented method in detail.According to the theories we have developed a reconfigurable Virtual Machining Environment System (VMES) in our lab. A case study is also introduced. The endeavor of this paper establishes the basis of universal virtual machining simulation and analysis.
