This paper presents the implementation of an H.264intra-prediction decoder, based on a multi-core processor. The tasks include software programming, and its mapping and optimization onto the multi-core processors. In addition, the video display platform is also introduced briefly.Firstly, based on the development reality of digital video communication and the problems it faced, we show the great practical significance and feasibility of implementing video compression by multi-core processor. Then we briefly introduce the basic knowledge and background of digital video, before a rather detail description of H.264, including the international standard, the architecture, and the video format and so on.One of the most important parts of this paper is the programming and mapping of H.264modules such as entropy decoding, dequantization&inverse-transformation and intra-prediction, which includes the using of execution array to improve decoding performance.Next we introduce the architecture of the target multi-core processor, including the cluster-based architecture, shared memory, NoC and execution array. A detail description of how to map the H.264decoder to the target processor is given afterwards. The simulation of the related modules and the corresponding results are also provided at last.Finally, we give a briefly introduction of the architecture of video display platform and the principle of VGA interface, which are used in realchip test.At the end of this work, we make a summary of this program. By analyze the shortcoming and the possibility of further optimization, some suggestions about the improvement which can be achieved are presented, along with the plan of future work.
