With the rapid development of the society, the issues of energy-saving and environmental protection have been paid highly attention in recent years. Due to the large power consumption and the inconvenience of the maintenance management, traditional city street lighting system has gradually been replaced by a new street lighting system. People have started to seek more scientific and energy-saving ways to manage and control street lights. In this background, according to the demands of city street lighting systems, the hardware experimental platform of LED Street lighting system in the urban residential environment is built based on ZigBee and GPRS wireless communication network. In this paper, the software design of LED Street light monitoring system is the focus of the study.In this paper, LED Street lighting system in the urban residential environment is regarded as an object of study. The hardware experimental platform that simulates the environment of city street lighting system is built by using three single light controllers, the ZigBee-GPRS gateway, the light intensity sensor, three sets of LED lights and drive powers and other hardware devices. The technology that combines the wireless communication network technology of ZigBee and GPRS is used in the design of this system.According to the requirements of controlling LED street lights in the urban residential environment, LED Street light monitoring software is designed based on the wireless communication technology. The interactive interface of LED Street light monitoring system is designed with C#programming technology. This interface can implement the function of controlling lights on, off and dimming, and can implement the function of fault alarming, real-time monitoring, single light control and multi-light control.In this paper, the ZigBee-GPRS gateway and single light controllers are used in the system. Based on the ZigBee protocol stack, the procedures of ZigBee router and the network coordinator are designed to implement the function of ZigBee network communication. It can implement the communication function between the single light controller and the gateway, and can implement the communication function among single light controllers. The communication between the monitoring computer and the ZigBee-GPRS gateway is achieved based on the standard TCP/IP protocol. GPRS communication is achieved based on the GPRS protocol. SQL Server database technology is used to design the database of LED Street light monitoring system. This database can implement the function of managing street lights’ data.Finally, according to the need of LED Street light monitoring system, different strategies are used to achieve the function of controlling one light, two lights and three lights. This process is to verify the feasibility of the monitoring software system.
