Aiming at the demand of remote monitoring for a important system during its transporting, designed and realized a remote monitoring terminal and a monitoring center respectively based on GPS and GIS system, and utilized the GPRS wireless communication network to establish a remote monitoring system adjusted to mid-low speed moving target. The software design method and implement tips of the remote monitoring terminal based on mature GPS and GPRS module is introduced particularly in this paper; improvement and realization of path planning algorithm based on GIS system is introduced, and the design procedure of monitoring center, the testing scheme and running status of the remote monitoring system is also introduced. This paper is divided into several main parts as follow:The fundamentals of GPS, GPRS, GIS are introduced respectively, then analyzed their characteristics, and compared them with other techniques in the same field with them. Showed the reason of why to select these three techniques, and presented the application method of the three techniques in the remote monitoring system.Aiming at the demand for path planning of remote monitoring system during transporting journey, the A* algorithm is selected based on analyzing of two classic path planning algorithm. The A* algorithm can not find the target path in some case on the digital map we used, so a improvement method based on region dividing method, developmental function modifying and searching steps modifying is presented. An experiment is carried out by coding with VC++, the result shows that the improved algorithm increases success rate of optimal path searching.The application which should be running in WinCE 5.0 embedded operating system is designed to fulfill:receiving and dealing with GPS data, transmitting GPRS data, converting A/D data and expanding control function of GPIO. Design tips and problem we meet during the design are also discussed.To realize display of digital map and several normal operating(such as zoom in, zoom out, pan, query of geography characteristic, special map) of digital map with MapX module, to fetch geography data from GRPS communication data, then display it on the digital map, to shape and record the contrail of the remote monitoring terminal.Presented a testing scheme to test the whole remote monitoring system, and analyzed the testing results.
