Network Events In The Herd

Network society is a special virtual space, it is the extending of the real society in cyber-space, which means digital relationships. Network is open and easy to access, when the enlarging of the"Netizen"group, group behaviors are seen online. This paper chooses conformity theory to analyze typical cyber events, from the details, the micro-process will be shown, using"mental-action"mode to extend the conformity research to cyber-space. Meanwhile, extending the meaning of"conformity", understanding conformity behaviors broadly, pressure or the changing of standpoint is not required in conformity. Depending on the core concept of conformity, this paper tries to make a new concept of"network conformity": In cyber-space, from the influence of Netizen group's concrete behaviors such as note-posting, discussion, for rational or blind purpose, online individual follows Netizen group's opinion, does the same behaviors or attitude expressing.For the choosing of concrete events, with the considering of large-scale information online, this paper chooses the events happened nearby with big influence, they're"Daitou Dage"event,"Jiajunpeng"event,"HIV Girl"event and the myth of Rolex. Through the detail analysis, the properties of network conformity are found: low-cost, virtual and anonymized, self-selected and flexible, differences of network to reality and reality to network. From the meaning searching of network conformity, it's found: network conformity can meet the real demands, it's the behavior of network carnival, also it could even produce influence to the reality. However, network conformity has lots of potential crisis, which include blind following, network violence and nothingness.Network is the public space with weak norms of supervision and law, it affords a chance to the"ground power"to gather together, this power includes positive influence to change irrational phenomenons, it also has negative influence to add the chaos of the society. Though network has two sides like a coin, it provides real influence to the entire change of the society, in other words, it's the free gift given to all the people.
