Boarding Junior High School Students To Bully The Status Quo And Its Intervention Experiments

Bullying is a special type of aggressive behavior that is of high prevalence among children. Many studies about bullying behavior have been carried out since 1980s. Among these studies, few ones are aimed at boarders at school, and most interventions give priority to teachers. In this study, actuality of bullying behavior about boarders was investigated, and effects of the intervention program were measured by Olweus bully/victim questionnaire.Before the intervention, 782 middle school students were measured in order to acquire the bullying actuality. Posttest was performed one year later. The main findings are as follows:1. Bullying problem was severe in the school, and 21.1% children were involved in bullying. In terms of incidence of bully, there was significant difference. Among four grades, there were also significant differences in terms of bully and victim, and grade 2 had the highest incidence.2. Direct verbal bullying (57.7%) was the main bullying type followed by indirect bullying (45.0%) and direct physical bullying (29.8%). The incidence of direct physical bullying, direct verbal bullying an indirect bullying of boys was higher than girls. Among four grades, there were significant differences on incidence of direct physical bullying, direct verbal bullying and indirect bullying, and grade 2 had the highest incidence on direct verbal bullying and indirect bullying.3. Girls scored higher than boys on sensibility of attitude towards bullying, but there was no difference on behavior tendency of attitude towards bullying.4. The intervention program of the present study played a positive role in reducing the bullying behaviors.
