Imagery In Woolf Studies

"stream-of-consciousness fiction" has had considerable influence in the western history of modem literature. It works most of the strong performance of the poetic style. As one of outstanding representatives of stream-of-consciousness, Virginia Woolf presented her concept on poetic fictions. Woolfs novels performs poetic style by using the creative approach of poem and the success of the usage of image, which triggered people's interest in reading, and broaden the interpretation of the space. The novels has their unique artistic charm.This dissertation fits into three chapters:The first chapter, "Woolfs concept on poetic fictions", examines the relations between image and poetic fictions. First begins Virginia Woolfs poetic fictions concept, then explains the formation function of poetic imagery on fiction style. Woolf considered that the style of future novels will be a kind of novels performing poetry style. Image is the major way to poetry style.ChapterⅡ, "specific interpretation of the images in Woolfs novels on narrative structure functions", mainly manifests the function of image on the structure and characterization in the novels. The image has the function to condense the spiritual meaning of novels and organize the structure of narrating on the theme and plot. The peculiar and distinct characteristics of image symbols to personage thought.ChapterⅢexamines aesthetic realms of image in the novels. A lot of images were used with the general metaphor and symbolic significance saves and works to preserve the emotional content and aesthetic means. Vivid sensory impact of the rich and the Meaning of images create the novels unique language charm and esthetic taste.
