Objective To find easily injured muscles and create functional exercise of knee on patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by combining applied anatomy, biomechanics, sports medicine, rehabilitation medicine and musculature theory together and absorbing advanced experience of special needles (knife needle, blade needle, etc). The functional exercise of knee which was composed by characteristics of easily injured muscles can be implemented on clinic rehabilitation research. It is estimate that functional exercise is superior to general tuina manipulation by comparing the exercise with general tuina manipulation.Method 60 patients with KOA were divided into two groups which were functional exercise group and general tuina manipulation group. Two course of treatment was taken continuously. Symptom and recovery of function were observed, and overall score were evaluated.Results1 symptom grade and overall score of KOA:There was significant difference between pre-exercise and post-exercise in treatment group (P<0.01) It is estimate that functional exercise and tuina manipulation can improve symptom of KOA.2, Therapeutic index:Range of motion between treatment group and control group was not significant different (P>0.05), and there was significant difference between pre-exercise and post-exercise in treatment group (P<0.01); There was significant difference between pre-tuina and post-tuina in control group (P<0.01)Rehabilitation therapy, two groups in the knee, mobility, relieve joint pain and reduce recurrence rate comparison, there are scores the distinctive differences (P<0.01), and it is estimate that functional exercise was superior to tuina manipulation for KOA.6. Over therapeutic effect:Over therapeutic effect in treatment group and control group was 86.66% and 86.66% respectively. Over therapeutic effect in treatment group and control group was not significantly different, but clinic control and effect in former was superior to the latter.4. Recrudescence after rehabilitation:There was three recrudescence in treatment group and ten in control group, and the rate were 10% and 33.3% respectively. Recrudescence in treatment group was superior to the control group. Conclusion Functional exercise is an effect method for rehabilitation of KOA. Functional exercise can improve symptoms of KOA, such as joint pain, morning stiffness, local tenderness and range of motion. It has the characteristics of easy operation, low expense and excellent therapeutic effect, and it is suitable for popularizing in hospital and rehabilitation center.
