Prevent And Resolve Medical Disputes, And Building A Harmonious Society

The happy relationship between patients and doctors is an important component of a harmonious society. However, it is a fact that nowadays this relationship becomes tensed, patients show little belief in doctors and lawsuits involved are on the rise. The causes of patient-hospital lawsuits in the past years seem to lie in three. First, different roles of patients and doctors result in different understanding and demand of medical service; second, patients are of different social status, which leads to different request of medical service; third, medical workers vary in personality and service awareness, which inevitably results in conflicts and lawsuits between patients and hospitals. Increasing medical conflicts and lawsuits not only worsen present patient-doctor relationship, but also interfere the normal running of hospitals, and eventually violate the social order. Should these not be properly addressed and controlled, they will become more serious. Thus, we should give high consideration to it, and take effective measures for precaution and settlement.It is radical and crucial that we should try our best to cut down the occurrences of patient-doctor lawsuits. To achieve the goal, hospital management must be improved, self-protection awareness of patients should be strengthened, and the communication between patients and doctors should be enhanced.At present, patient-hospital conflicts are primarily settled in three ways: mutual consultation between patients and hospitals, intermediation of health administrations and arbitration of the court. But these ways can no longer keep pace with the social development. A committee should be established to cope with the conflicts. Meanwhile, the system of medical liability insurance should be employed in large scale to ensure perfect settlements of the conflict and lawsuits.
