Exercise therapy is very important in the rehabilitation ofhemiplegia.Daoyin is the exercise therapy of traditional Chinesemedicine. Objective:To study the effects of Daoyin therapy on the functionaloutcome in patients with convalescence stroke.Method: Sixty patients with convalescence stroke were divided intotreatment group (n=30)and control group(n=30). The treatment groupwere treated with Daoyin therapy and routine rehabilitation training (usefacilitation technique);the control group were treated with routinerehabilitation training (facilitation technique). The National Institutes ofHealth Stroke Scale (NIHSS),Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA)andModified Barthel Index (MBI)were used to assess the degree ofneurological impairment, motor function and activities of daily living(ADL) before and after six months of treatment.Result: After treatment the NIHSS scales,FMAscales and MBI scaleswere significantly different in the two groups comparing with the scorebefore treatment (P<0.01and P<0.05),the treatment group weresignificantly different comparing with the control group after treatment(P<0.05). The total efficiency rates in the two groups were 94.4% and83.3%, respectively. There were no significant difference in the two groups (x~2=0.81, P>0.05); In the treatment group, the cure rates andsuperior rates is 73.3%, while in control group was 46.7%, there weresignificant difference between the two groups (x~2=4.44, P<0.05).Conclusion: Daoyin combine rehabilitation training can effectivelyimprove the functional outcomes in patients with convalescence stroke.
