| The theory of root and end and appearance and substance which derives from Huang Di Nei Jing(Huangdi's Canon of Medicine) is an important content in meridian doctrine. Based on the discussion of the meridians distribution and transmission of wei, qi, ying and xue, the theory further expounds the relationship between meridian qi in four limbs and that in head, trunk and internal organs. In this theory, stress is laid on the significance of transport points in four limbs in physiological functions, pathological changes, diagnosis and treatment. The seldom research and negligence of its significance make it necessary to make a systemic scrambling.There are five parts in this dissertation.Part one is the brief introduction about the theory of appearance and substance and root and end. It begins with the original meaning of appearance, substance, root and end which enables us understand the theory more profoundly. The main content of each of them is also summarized to make a preparation for the dissertation.Part two is about the development of the theory. An all round summarization of the development at each stage is made to provide the dissertation with background material on the basis of the tidying up the development of this theory.Part three is the discussion of this theory in Huang Di Nei Jing(Huangdi's Canon of Medicine). In this part, we make a comparison between the theory of root and end and that of appearance and substance. Profound discussion about the theory is performed from the point of four seas, qi jie, wei qi, five transport points and whole view. It reveals that the two theories lay different emphasis. My tutor's research achievements on this theory are also explained. Part four is about the application of it by later generations. A summary of the application by later generations is made from several angles such as guiding diagnosis and treatment , guiding points selection and usage of new points, health cultivation and the essence research of meridians,which demonstrates the significance of this theory.Part five is the conclusion and prospect of the theory.In a word, the dissertation interprets the meaning of the theory of root and end and appearance and substance , tidies up the development, explains my tutor's research achievements, summarizes the application by later generations. And stress is laid on the discussion of the theory in Huang Di Nei Jing(Huangdi's Canon of Medicine). It is believed that the research will promote the development of modern theory of acupuncture and clinical therapeutic effect of acupuncture. |
