This thesis discusses the progress of traditional Chinese and modern medical researches on Impaired Glucose Tolerance, and the clinical intervention study of TangNaiKang on subjects with impaired glucose tolerance. The researches on Impaired Glucose Tolerance using Traditional Chinese medicine include theoretic and clinical studies. The thesis also includes: a systemic comparison to review the progress in the past ten years, a simple analysis on the problem and shortages of the researches, and a suggestion on the future direction. In the second part of the thesis, a summary is made on the epidemiology, dangerous factors, pathogenesis, adverse effect to other systems, and inter- vention studys of Impaired Glucose Tolerance in modern medicine in recent years. The clinical study section is about the efficacy of Tang-Naikang to decrease the 2h plasma glucose and improve the insulin resistance in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance. In this study, 76 subjects with IGT were included. The subjects were divided into two groups stochastically: control group and pharmacological group. Control group has 37 subjects;pharmacological group has 39 subjects. All of the subjects received conventional education on IGT prevention. Besides the education, the pharmacological group was orally given TangNaikang which has the function of boost qi and noyrish yin and clear heat, activating blood circulation to dissipate blood stases. The clinical symptoms of the subjects, the fasting plasma glucose, the 2h plasma glucose,HbA1c,BMI were observed mainly. Results: the empty stomach insulin, the 2h plasma glucose,BMI,the clinical symptoms of the subjects in pharmacological group were significantly improved, compared with either control group or the baseline data of pharmacological group. And during the observing period, there was no side effects in pharmacological group. Conclusion: Tang- Naikang can decrease the 2h plasma glucose, improve IR and the clinical symptoms of the subjects. It is an effective medicine which is worth researching further.
