Background Paediatric recurrent respiratory tract infection (RRTI) is one of the most common diseases and associated with significant morbidity. It attacks repeatly and is difficult to cure. The disease not only affected children's health and quality of life, but also brought parents of children with heavy ideological and economic burdens. The morbidity of RRTI has been increasing in recent years. In addition, the treatment of the disease is difficult. Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills are tradiontional medicine pills for the treatment of viral myocarditis. They benifit the Qi, nourish Yin and promote blood circulation by removing blood stasis, clearing away heat and toxic materials. This study aimed to find a new treatment methord for the RRTI children whose syndrome type is Qi and Yin deficiency. There are two parts of the study.First part: clinical study of treatment of recurrent respiratory infection in children with Qi and Yin deficiency with Yu Dan Rong Xin PillsObjective To study the effect of treatment of recurrent respiratory infection in children with Qi and Yin deficiency with Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills and the levels of IgG , IgA and CK-MB.Methods One hundred recurrent respiratory infection patients with Qi and Yin deficiency were selected and divided into 2 groups randomly. The treatment group was given Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills for 8 weeks besides the routine synthetic treatment (used in the control group ) and followed up for 6 months and the curative effect was evaluated. The conclusions were obtained by statistical data.Results1.The recipe had definite curative effect. Total clinic effective rate was 90 % in the treatment group and 72% in the control group. There was a significant difference of the two.2.Total effective rate of TCM syndrome manifestations was 96% in the treatment group and 70% in the control group. The difference was more significant.3. There was significant improvement on the symptoms in the treatment group after treatment. The difference was significant. Compared with the control group after treatment, the difference was more significant.4. Weight of the treatment group after treatment. Weight increase rate in the treatment group was (3.64±1.6)%,and in the control group (1.92±1.9)%. There was a significant difference(P﹤0.01)。5. After the treatment IgG and IgA improved greatly in the treatment group. There was a significant difference compared with those before the treatment (P﹤0.01,P﹤0.01). Compared with the control group after the treatment, the difference was greatly significant(P< 0.05,P<0.01)。6. CK-MB rate in the treatment group was 100%(20/20),61.1%(11/18) in the control group. There was a significant difference between the two(P﹤0.01)。Conclusion Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills, in treating child recurrent respiratory infection in syndrome type of qi and yin deficiency in non-acute seizure phase, can reduce respiratory infections, relieve the symptoms, increase weight and the levels of IgG and IgA, and recover the function of CK-MB.Second part: Experimental study of treatment of recurrent respiratory infection in children with Qi and Yin deficiency with Yu Dan Rong Xin PillsObjective to investigate the effect of Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills on the immune functions of mice that have low immune functions as a result of CTX.Methods 120 healthy male mice, 8-week-old, were randomly divided into three experiment groups, 40 mice each. 40 mice pf each group were randomly divided into 4 groups according to their weight, namely, normal group(A), CTX group(B), Huangqi group(C) and Rongxin Pills group(D). Each group has 10. The mice in Groups A and B were administrated with distilled water(0.5ml/each), Group C were administrated with Huangqi keli(20mg/g.d), Group D were administrated with Yudan Rongxin Pills(20mg/g.d) . Each group was given medicine for 14 days continuously. On the tenth day, all groups except group A were injected with cyclophosphamide one time per day to induce the model three times in order to observe the effect on the phagocytic function of Yudan Rongxin Pills to macrophage in abdominal cavity of mice, delayed hypersensitivity resulted from DNCB, and production of hemolysin antibody in mice that CRBC sensitized. Results Compared with immunosuppressive models given distilled water (Group B) , phagocytic function of macrophage in abdominal cavity of mice and delayed hypersensitivity resulted from DNCB were enhanced(P<0.01), the serum level of hemolysin antibody increased in models given Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills(P<0.01). There was no significant difference between Groups C and D(P>0.05)。Conclusion The result showed that Yu Dan Rong Xin Pills can improve non-specific and specific immune function of mice that have low immune function leaded by cyclophosphamide.
