Heart palpitation consisting of palpitation and fearful throbbing is one of common clinical syndromes which is clinically manifested as feeling irregularity in the force or rhythm of the heartbeat .The fast tempo of life in modern society may cause nervous , tired , anxious in mind and they can change into the cause of heart palpitation. According to statistics , its incidence tends to increase gradually year after year especially in the group consist of young man. It is caused by all kinds of pathogens . it is difficult to judge the pathogen clearly by force of diagnostic channel in western medicine in many cases. Traditional Chinese medicine and pharmacy therapy is widely concerned as its predominance over comprehensive action resulting from its taking the whole body into consideration.Many doctors and clinicians gradually consummate its pathogen and onset law and main points of syndrome differentiation and summarize comprehensive experience of clinical administration and accumulate plenty of relative literatures during their clinical observation and practical recognition over two thousand years from pre-Qin dynasty to the end of Qing dynasty. After collecting data which is related to heart palpitation generally, we filtrated, sorted and analyzed it .Historical origin and development and special advance in each dynasty were narrated in the literatures of TCM from pre-Qin to the end of Qing dynasty and characteristics in different phase was retrospect and studied in this article which will be beneficial to make profound exploration on the treatment and use experience for reference and enlighten clinicians.There are two parts in this disquisition. The contents of the first chapter is the first part which determined the definition and range of heart palpitation in this disquisition and made its clear definition according to the standard of modern Chinese medicine and made certain the range of diseases and disorders in western medicine included in heart palpitation and other diseases manifested as similarly main symptoms were also be taken into the same range. Many relative disease names of this symptoms existed in the ancient literatures were also listed and analyzed. Heart palpitation discussed in this disquisition is included in internal medicine.The contents of the second to the sixth chapter is the second part of thedisquisition which was divided mainly according to the dynasty into the following phases as the pre-Qin-two Han , Jin-Tang ,Song -Jin-Yuan,Ming-Qing dynasty. Much space was applied to the exploring and discussing about the important treatises and standpoint of physicians in each dynasty. Advancing and original points were all absorbed into this disquisition ,and origin from which the ideal derived was also analyzed. At the beginning of each phase ,characteristic of content which included following ,innovation and development recorded in relative literature was introduced in the first instance. Afterwards ,keystone was put on meticulous analysis which was related to representative literature. Among them , pathogenesis, diagnosis, differentiation, treatment ,peculiar medicine using .nursing and prevention etc were all involved in. In order to find out origin of frame of reference of arrhythmia ,we narrated all the life of those who has made excellent contribution in heart palpitation treatment briefly .All those theory ,experience of administration and scientific ideal will provide valuable reference and instruction for the researchers in modern times.
