The appraisal towards the ability of clinical medicine is the focus in the field of educational appraisal. There are a lot of research reports at home and abroad, and each of them has its own features. The military universities, especially our university, walk at the forefront of the reform of content of courses and curriculum system of undergraduates. They win the national special-class prize of achievement in teaching, but the appraisal researches of the teaching effect in those universities lag behind relatively without intact system. At present the test of the ability of clinical medicine which the undergraduates of clinical medicine in our university take before graduation is mainly in the form of test at the bed and test paper of multiple choices and discussion. The test at the bed is one or two cases chosen by the guide-teacher in the hospital where the students practice in, while the test paper of multiple choices and discussion is given by the teaching and research section of internal medicine department and surgical department after the students finish their practice. The main problems of such kind of test methods are the easiness of the way of appraisal, the backwardness of means and the lowness of efficiency and trustworthiness. As the deepening of the theoretical research of tests, some new external test methods are introduced and applied, such as test of objective clinical ability, test with standard patients, mock test on the computer, etc. However, the above-mentioned methods can not be used widely because of the restriction of the internal conditions. In the past a few years, in the light of the domestic reality, the educational institutions such as the Chinese Medical University and the West-China Medical University,under the guide of the American experts, began to take up appraisal research of the clinical ability of medical undergraduates in high educational institutions. And they have got some new progress and set up preliminarily scheme and system of clinical comprehensive ability which conform to the national conditions. At present the graduation test methods of our medical universities are decided according to the progress of medical education and reform and their own conditions without unified and fixed form. In view of the same thinking, this question for study raises a scheme to appraise comprehensively the ability of speciality which the undergraduates of clinical medicine of military educational institutions should have in order to get a degree of Bachelor of Medicine and a standard appraisal target system and collection of test questions with reference to the practice and experience, combining the feature of military educational institutions. Being divided into two parts - the theory and the practice, the target system is made up of the first class with four test types and the second class with twenty test items. The ability of the speciality in this scheme includes ability of clinical medicine and military medicine. Ability of clinical medicine tests mainly the behavior during the practice, the ability of associating with the patients and the ability and skill of dealing with the patients. Ability of military medicine tests mainly the ability of the undergraduates' applying the basic knowledge to analyze and solve the problem. According to the different time of specific test this scheme is summed up as "the three-part comprehensive test form".Using this scheme for the trial test towards 79 undergraduates of '98, we got some good results. The statistical analysis holds that applying this scheme can test the students' comprehensive ability of speciality in an all-round way. Since this scheme is objective,comprehensive, easy and practical, especially suitable to give test to a large number of graduates in a short time, it is worthy of spreading in the army.
