Objective To establish an animal model in goats for modified bi-focal distraction osteogenesis in mandibular segmental defect reconstraction.Metheds six goats were used in this study, every extra-oral distractor was activated 7 days after transport plate was completed between the distal trump and the plate with teeth at a rate of 1mm/d for 12-16 days, then awaiting a cosolidation of 7days,activated it again between the transport plate and the medial trump. Results all the segmental mandibular defects were reconstructed at the distal of transport plates successfully with a extral lengthened 5mm at the medial transport plates and the medial trumps.X-ray and organ images confirm themConclusion goat is a good animal for developing an experimental model on study of modified bi-focal distractionosteogenesis in mandibular segmental defect reconstruction.
