objection: To analyze the characteristics of spectrum of speech pathology in the sequence therapy of patient with cleft palate in order to indicate speech disorders, which can provide an objective basis for speech evaluation and speech therapy. Method: The formant frequency of the 4 vowels [a], [e], [i], [u] and VOT of the 5 consonants and 3 sentences of 10 healthy children, 30 patients with cleft palate, 33 patients postoperation with cleft palate and 16 patients after speech therapy were examined by spectrography. The mean value of the formant frequency, the decrease and/or disappear of the first three formant (F1,F2,F3 ), the VOT of consonants and the characteristics of spectrum of consonant-vowel were analyzed. Result: â‘ There was significant difference at the values of formants between speech therapy group and postoperation group (p<0.05) except [a], while no significant difference was found between preoperation group and postoperation group (p>0.05);There was no difference between speech therapy group and control group except the value of F2 and F3 of [i](p>0.05). â‘¡The rate of decrease and/or disappear of formant in preoperation group and postoperation group was significantly higher than that of speech therapy group and control group especially the vowel of [i][u]; The rates of decrease and/or disappear of F1, F2, F3 of vowels [i] and [u] are fairly low in speech therapy group and control group. â‘¢There was 23.3% (preoperation) and 39.4% (postoperation) of patients had VOT, while 93.8% of patients in speech therapy group and 100% of control group had VOT. There was no significant difference in the speech spectrum of consonant-vowel between preoperation and postoperation group (p>0.05), but there was significant difference between speech therapy group and control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: The analysis of spectrum characteristics of formants vowels and VOT of consonant-vowel is of great help in finding bad habits of pronunciation and the condition of Velopharyngeal competence (VPC).So it is of theoretical and clinical value in speech evaluation of cleft palate patients.
