Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) has received widely attention both at home and abroad because of its great application value.WSN is large-scale, self-organizing, dynamic and reliability, which means it has advantage in application of accessing extensive environmental monitoring data and a large number of randomized research one and long-term continuous monitoring of hard-to-reach region. This paper emphasizes on how to set up and implement WSN, which takes luminous intensity measurement of the mapped region for example, implements an Environmental Monitoring System which is based on WSN, puts forward a four-layer structure of"sensor node-sink node-server-user". The system allows sensor nodes arbitrarily to be deployed in the monitored region and constitute a sensor network by self-organizing. Every single sensor node collects data, which is sent to the sink node, and then the sink node sends the gathered data to the PC in base station, which directly connects with the Internet via gateway and sends the data to the database server. Remote users have access to those data in data center in order to achieve their goals of monitoring environment. The system uses ATmega128L,which is made in Atmel Company, as single chip and CC2420 as radio frequency chip to work as its hardware platform, while uses TinyOS for its operation system and chooses a component-oriented language NesC for programming language. Imitating the nodes blink, data collection and transmission and drawing measurement curve of the gathered data of Luminous Intensity by using TOSSIM, the simulation of TinyOS.
