With the development of the internet and electronic equipment,even including embedded systems technology, field bus technology have a more rapid development. Different kinds of automation control equipment coming mature,because of the large range of internet and other equipments linked so perfect.As the serial communication itself is relatively simple and efficient to run and easy to program, it is still the most important communicate way for different automation devices.In accordance with the classical control theory, a typical control system usually contains the following modules.Such as information detection module, controller module, implementing agency module. The key module state is directly related to the effectiveness and stability of the control systems.This paper discusses a mobile robot which is based on Modbus protocol design and implementation of monitoring system. This monitoring system is designed on the Matlab platform which can communicate through the Modbus protocol to ensure the reliability of the achieved information. It can monite the dynamic information of the robot,also it can give the robot intelligent control. So this monitoring system have great significance in the debugging process.First, this paper introduces the background and the significance of this research.Also it outlined the status of domestic and international communication protocols. Second, this paper introduces some basic knowledge of the issues related with the mobile robot platform.Including the overall structure of the robot platform and a detailed description of the module.Then in the third chapter, it focuses on the principles of the Modbus communication.With the hardworking to do the specific research, it gives detailed explanations, and also an intuitive graphical manner is shown. Then it analysis the reliability of transmission on Modbus serial link. It has to do specific analysis from the way of the transmission to data error checking.In the fourth chapter, it focus on the designing of the interface by Matlab. Then it has done in-depth study on the Matlab serial communication.Later it describes the designing and implementation of the Modbus protocol in control system.In the fifth chapter, it describes the debugging process monitoring system.Finally, it has done the overall conclusion of this subject, and gives the constructive advice and direction of the future work.
