At the end of last century, the emergence of electronic paper display technology has aroused widespread attention, it combines the advantages of paper and electronic displays, is consistent with people's reading habits, but also achieve rapid updating of information. Its rewritable, portable light, low power consumption, easy to curl and so is the other display technology can not match. This paper first introduced the research background, including the working principle of electronic paper, classification and characteristics, review of electronic paper technology development process, analysis of the recent status and possible applications. From the international development of e-paper, electrophoretic electronic paper is one of the most promising technologies and shows a relatively stable performance, including microencapsulated electrophoretic display and micro-cup electrophoresis. This article described the microcapsule electrophoretic display device structure, the revelation principle and preparation methods, showing the current progress of technology in this lab. Then this paper introduced the development of the micro-cup-type electronic paper display device. Micro-cup array is the key structure of this display device. This innovative introduction of SU-8 thick photoresist materials was used to prepare micro-cup array by UV-lithography. Through many experiments, a set of optimal micro-cup design parameters and the corresponding SU-8 thick photoresist lithography process were found. Click here to process the micro-cup array which had good graphics and clear lines. The final part of the paper was the hardware and software design for the control circuit of electronic paper. According to the circuit modules, different hardware components and equipment were chose for the hardware circuit. Then PCB was designed and the hardware circuit was debugged. C programming language was chosen for its flexibility. Modular programming was used. Proteus and Keil simulation software tools were used for joint debugging and ultimately the electronic paper has implemented two functions: seven-segment display and characters display.
