Objective: To explore the predicted factors of asthma in children under 5 years old with wheezing. Methods: Clinical data from 223 patients with wheezing were collected from Sep.2008 to Mar.2009. the data of those cases were collected by clinic service and telephone follow-up in post-discharge for 1 to 1.5 years. The independent effect of risk factors was obtained by Logistic regression analysis. Results: Eighty-six cases of 223(38.6%) children with wheezing developed into asthma. There were significant differences between asthma and non-asthma group in eczema, allergic rhinitis, food sensitization, family history of atopy/asthma, exercise induced wheezing, eosinophilia, recurrent lower respiratory tract infection(LRTI),serum total immunoglobulin E(IgE) and serum eosinophilic cationic protion(ECP)(Peczema)=0.006, Pallergic rhinitis)=0.000, Pfood sensitization)=0.012, Pfamily history of atopy/asthma)=0.000, Pexercise induced wheeze)=0.000, Precurrent LRTI=0.000, Peosinophilia=0.015, PIgE(+)及ECP(+))=0.000). The factors that contribute to the risk of asthma onset were eczema, allergic rhinitis, family history of atopy/asthma, exercise induced wheeze, recurrent LRTI, eosinophilia, IgE and ECP[OR(95%CI)eczema =2.201(1.021-4.742), P)=0.044; OR(95%CI)allergic rhinitis=3.140(1.462-6.740), P)=0.003; OR(95%CI)family history of atopy/asthma=1.886(1.004-3.542), P)=0.048; OR(95%CI)exercise induced wheeze=11.342(4.611-27.900), P)=0.000; OR(95%CI)eosinophilia=7.378(2.115-25.750), P)=0.002; OR(95%CI)recurrent LRTI=25.902(9.799-29.465), P=0.000; OR(95%CI)IgE(+)及ECP(+)=9.204(1.487-25.231), P)=0.012; (P<0.05)] Conclusions: We used the factors of eczema, allergic rhinitis, family history of atopy/asthma, exercise induced wheeze, eosinophilia, recurrent LRTI, IgE and ECP(to predict the likelihood of future asthma in children under 5 years old with wheezing.
