The Literature Research Of Xijiao Dihuang Tang

First,it is proved in this paper that the name of Xijiao Dihuang Tang appeared in Valuable Prescription for Emergencies(Bei Ji Qian Jin Yao Fang)of Song edition for the first time,not in the original edition of Valuable Prescription for Emergencies written by Sun Si Miao in Tang dynasty,because the name,Xijiao Dihuang Tang,couldn't have been found in the original edition.It is also confirmed in this paper that the source of Xijiao Dihuang Tang is the Jotting Prescriptions(Xiao Pin Fang)written by Chen Yan Zhi in Dong Jin dynasty in which it was called Shaoyao Dihuang Tang.The component herbs of Xijiao Dihuang Tang are discussed in this paper.Substitute herbs for Xijiao which is rare and is forbidden to be used as herb concerning its ecological value are summarized at the beginning.In this formula Dihuang can not only cool blood and nourish yin but can also promote blood circulation by removing blood stasis.There are records of Dihuang's function of promoting blood circulation by removing blood stasis in ancient TCM literatures,so attentions should also be attached on this function.Shaoyao or Paeonia in this formula means Radix Paeoniae Rubra or Raidix Paeoniae Alba.The former one is more commonly used in modern times and it mainly functions as cooling blood and removing blood stasis;while the latter one mainly functions as nourishing yin and cooling blood which were also recorded in ancient literatures.There were discussions on the mechanism of this formula both in ancient and modern times.It can be divided into three aspects:cool blood and remove stasis,nourish yin and clear away heat,eliminate pathogenic factors by expelling heat.In this paper,we selected 69 modified Xijiao Dihuang Tangs according to its component herbs,main functions and indications.By analyzing the compatibility we discussed formulae which are similar to Xijiao Dihuang Tang.In this paper we emphasized on collecting indications of Xijiao Dihuang Tang.In ancient times,there were more than 60 kinds of diseases recorded as indications of this formula.In modern times,it was reported that there are more than 40 kinds of diseases can be treated by this formula.Comparison indicates that the main indications of this formula in modern times remain the same as in the past.They are mainly heat,blood stasis and yin deficiency.The main indications of Xijiao Dihuang Tang are heat,stasis and yin deficiency which are correspondent to its main functions of cooling blood and removing blood stasis, eliminating pathogenic factors by expelling heat,nourishing yin and clearing away heat.So Xijiao Dihuang Tang can be used as main formula for stagnant heat syndrome.It is proposed that the experiences and theoretic study on treating both exopathic diseases and diseases due to internal injury with Xijiao Dihuang Tang should be emphasized on.It is worthy of further study especially relevant study about treating stubborn diseases due to internal injury with this formula.
