ObjectiveThis paper has artistically analyzed 2313 cases of our teaching and research section from 1999 to 2008, in order to achieve the proportion of different death causes in cases, their variation, and the distribution of various death causes in gender and age, as well as discussed the forensic examination key points and research progress by means of case analysis.Materials and methodsStatistically analyze the details of 2313 cases which are collected in Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology Department of Forensic Medicine Department of Forensic Pathology from 1999 to 2008. Select 1 ~ 2 typical of cases, each from the top five categories of death causes, to analytically reason or experimentally research.ResultIn 2313 cases of deaths, the order in quantity of the various causes of death is: dead with disease > mechanical injury> Poisoning> mechanical asphyxia> unexplained death> high/low temperature injury. Therein to, 43% of disease death is cardiovascular, and 55% of mechanical injury is traumatic brain injury. There is no significant difference of this order in each year. In male death cases, the proportion of the mechanical injury and high/low temperature injury is higher than that of women, while the proportion of mechanical suffocation and poisoning is lower than that of women. The cause of death above 21 age basically has the same order as our results. Below 10-year-old group, mechanical asphyxia cases are in the majority, while mechanical damage cases are in the minority. Identifications of points in different causes of death cases are different, but appraisal method and procedure is approximately the same, only focus of each being different. Interdisciplinary and application of new technologies brought many effective auxiliary detection methods.Conclusion1. In our department, disease is still the top cause in forensic pathology and the rates of various cases of death will be sustained by speculation during the next few years. It must be taken note that there were many neonatus choked by liquor amnii. 2. When the cases of death are analyzed in different appraisal of forensic pathology, it should combine its own characteristics, strictly rule out the diagnosis, and attach importance to clinical inspection and testing method of molecular genetics. Application of molecular genetics to sudden cardiac death case study is an efficient part of the mechanism of its death.
