Clinical research is an important means that can test the clinical practical value of the relevant research achievement. But the collection, sorting, retrieval and summary of the large samples and the diverse artificial clinical data are rather cumbersome, time-consuming, and can easily cause some data loss and make mistakes, which can severely hamper the development of clinical scientific research. The study tries to create and develop a clinical database software system to facilitate the orthopedic clinical research, and use this system to establish the relevant clinical database and make the systematic management of the unified clinical data, The purpose is to facilitate the data storage, query, analysis, summary, exchange and share.Purpose:(1) Create and develop the clinical database software system that would facilitate the orthopedic clinical research, and have used this system to establish the clinical database of Anti-infective reconstituted bone xenograft (ARBX).(2)Adopt this database to analyze and summary these cases of traumatic osteomyelitis treatment on the long bone, and verify the curative effect of the first phase bone grafting of ARBX based on this database. Methods:(1)According to the actual needs of orthopedic clinical research, the case information database system is established under the cooperation with the related software development companies, and it would facilitate the orthopedic clinical research with the Access software. The ARBX patients'information is collected and input with its follow-up data. That is a total of 176 patients from January 2000 to December 2008 in our hospital, in order to finish the establishing ARBX clinical information database.(2)In order to carry out the 1st phase bone grafting of ARBX on patients, 50 cases (52 places) of traumatic osteomyelitis of the long bone (9 cases of humerus, ulna and radius in 8 cases, 19 cases of femur, tibia and fibula in 14 cases) are selected to analyze and summarize based on the database in order to evaluate and test its clinical efficacy.Results:(1) The clinical database software system is created and developed to facilitate the orthopedic clinical research, and the ARBX clinical information database is established with this system.(2) 50 cases of traumatic osteomyelitis of long bone received follow-up treatment is analyzed and summarized. The length of accessed time is between 10–63 months, and the averaged time is 23 months. Among which, 8 cases of radioulna osteomyelitis are recovered except for one case infected; 9 cases of humerus osteomyelitis recovered except for one case not cured; 14 cases of tibiofibula osteomyelitis recovered except for 3 cases not cured, and one case is residual bone nonunion; 19 cases of femoral osteomyelitis are completely cured except for two cases of bone infection not cured. The overall cure rate is 84% that is significantly higher than the conventional one. Conclusion:(1)It is extraordinary convenient for orthopedic clinical research to create a clininal database software system.(2) Traumatic osteomyelitis cases of the long bone with ARBX treatment are analyzed and summed up by using the ARBX clinical information database. It has been confirmed that ARBX has both potent resistance to infection and high capacity in inducing osteogenic formation. Besides, ARBX can cure traumatic osteomyelitis of long bone with 1st phase bone grafting, and can significantly shorten the course of treatment, increase the efficacy.
