Objective:To evaluate the anti-angiogenesis action of Bevacizumab on corneal neovascularization(CNV) in rats induced by alkali burns. Methods:Health Wistar rats, aging 6 and 8 weeks and weighting 170g to 190g were prepared for CNV animal models, both corneas of each animal in experimental were cauterized with alkali, then all rats were randomly divided into four groups(each group have 10 rats and 20 corneas), the both corneas of each rats were received subconjunctivally Bevacizumab in different dosage(group20.5mg; group3 1.0mg; group4 2.0mg)and the group 1 were received carrier solution. The occurrence and development of CNV were observed by slit-lamp microscope, length and area of CNV were calculated. The rats were followeded up 16d After alkali burns. The 80 corneas were taken for histopathological examination. VEGF were detected in all rat corneas by immunohistochemistry method. Results:Neovascularization and on central corneal(7.5-10.8)day. In the bevacizumab-treated eyes, the vascular area was lower than in the control eyes. The treated group was statistical differences compared with the control group; When vascular area were compared between the treated groups, no statistical differences were observed. The histopathological findings showed that the inflamation cells and the neovascularity in each treated group were significantly fewer than that the control group. The expression of VEGF was markedly increasd in CNV control group in compared with bevacizumab-injected group. Conclusion:Corneal alkali burn injuries model is a good method. Conjunction application of a certain concentrations Bevacizumab could inhibit angiogenesis in rats corneas induced by alkali burns.
