This article briefly describes the basic knowledge of fluid seal technology and its development, mainly focusing on dry gas seal. Dry gas seal with its outstanding advantages has been increasingly widely used on high speed turbine compressors in the fields of refinery and chemistry industry and gradually has been the primary choice for shaft end seal of high speed turbine compressors.The structure and basic theory of spiral groove is studied on the basis of characteristics and typical structure of dry gas seal. The structure of spiral groove is calculated using mathematics model and the limite element method. Seal type and material is analysed. Some good experiences and results are obtained from calculations and comparative studies, which can be used to popularize the dry gas seal technology of spiral groove.
