In the start and stop processing of dry gas seal,as well as the abnormal operation phase that caused by machining,installation or other errors,dry gas seal face occurs contact friction,which will affect the service life and stability of dry gas seal,or even directly lead to dry gas seal damage.Especially for dry gas seals that used in extreme conditions,such as low speed dry gas seal which opening time is longer,will lead to serious friction and wear of sealing surface in the opening phase;the end load of high pressure dry gas seal in the start and stop phase is large,so the end face is heavily wear and tear,and will produce high friction heat which cause deformation.Therefore,the tribological characteristic of dry gas seal state is fatal to the performance of dry gas seal.In this paper,on the basis of the starting and stopping stage of the dry gas seal,the tribological characteristics of the dry gas seal face are studied and discussed.The main contents are as follows: the dry gas seal ring is tested by the friction wear test ing machine,three tests were run in all,which contains the grinding-in test of dry gas seal ring's end face under specific conditions,the test that study the effects of operating mode on frictional wear of end face and the c omparison test of tribological properties of two kinds of spiral angle dry gas seal rings.The experimental results such as the friction coefficient,the temperature rise of friction,the wear of the graphite ring and the surface wear morphology were obtained,then the grinding-in rules of dry gas seal ring,the relationship between the friction characteristics of seal ring and the working condition,and the effects of helix angle on the friction characteristics of seal ring are analyzed and discussed.According to the test results and the change of friction characteristic parameters of the seal ring,the sealing ring's friction mechanism is simply analyzed and speculated.Through the above experimental study,it is found that: dry gas seal ring has obvious running-in phenomenon,and owing to the seal ring material and the particularities of the end face structure,the wear rules of graphite ring's inner ring are different;the change of working parameters will obviously affect the friction characteristics of the seal ring,and the self-lubricating properties of the graphite ring can improve the lubrication state of the end face,thereby promote the frictional behavior of the end face;the result reveals that two kinds of specimen that with different helix angles showed obvious differences in tribological characteristics,so it is necessary to consider the effects of structural parameters on the friction and wear of the optimal design of dry gas seal state.The above results provide some theoretical guidance for further research in frictional study of dry gas seals and the friction and wear optimization design of end faces.
