Distribution Automation (DA) has been used widely and developed quickly in abroad and in civil in recent years. The application of DA is early and typical in United States, Japan, Korea, Singapore, England and Finland etc. It also has been developed since 1990's in civil. At now, DA has been applied in over one hundred of counties. Some of counties only do test in some power lines. However, DA is applied mostly in City Distribution Network, and most of them are realized by cooperation of superposition switch, subsection switch and counter etc. DA is seldom used in oilfield power network. Because of the difference between oilfield distribution network and city distribution network, we can't apply DA to oilfield network with the mode of city distribution network. Because oilfield distribution network is more complex than city distribution network, the application is more significant than be used in city distribution network. In this paper, a project of FA combined with the actual circumstance of oilfield distribution network is put forward. Some researches on the difficult points of FA are done. The main contents includes: The communication method, the single phase grounding default in small current neutral grounding power system, power supply to second equipments, fault line detection, fault position location and fault branches isolation etc. As a new communication method, GPRS is fit for oilfield network in lots of aspects, which develop quickly in recent years. An improved signal injection method is designed. A new thoughts about power supply for second equipments is put forward, which is using capacitor to keep energy for open-coils and close-coils and by using storage battery to provide the energy for equipment else. A kind of method of getting supply power from CT is designed. After comparison among various algorithms, an improved matrix algorithm is put forward. In the end, the significant and the future of FA applied in oilfield network is depicted.
