As a frontier topic in the field of mechanics, the fluid structure interaction is paidmore attention recently, in which seismic design of the liquid storage tanks is a typicalexample. Since there are many liquid storage tanks in CEFR needed to carry out theseismic analysis, we must adopt simplified approaches in computation, especiallyaccurate simplified model of nuid. By summarizing and further developing the previousconventional methods for the simplified model of fluid, in this paper a simplified modelfor general liquid storage tanks is proposed, and application of this model in the anti-seismic design of main vessel of CFAR is also performed. On the other hand, the numerical methods have been developed rapidly for itseffectiveness and accuracy in analyzing the fluid-struCture interaction. By linking a 3Dcode (BELIEF3) on sloshing analysis with a finite element code (ADINA) on structuralanalysis, a 3D code (NFSI) for the analysis of fiuid-structure interaction is newlydeveloped, which has more realistic fluid model and more extensive application. Usingthe NFSI code, the seismic response of a liquid storage tank was computed, and a ratherrational result was got.
