Plant growth regulators are synthesized organic compounds, they are different to fertilizers, but have the similar physiological activity as plant hormones. Some could influence the synthesis, transport and metabolism of endogenous hormones. Some could adjust the balance of plant hormones. Their formula weight is small, but could promote,inhabit,or alert the plant's physiological process in other ways. They are considered as an important way to realize the transform from traditional agriculture to high technological agricalture. In order to find new plant growth regulators, Nine compounds of 2-(2-phenylethyl)chromone and four compounds of 2-(2-phenylmethyl)chromone were designed and synthesized, on the basis of Wang Tao who had isolated two new compounds of 2-(2-phenylethyl) chromone which could promote the growth of the wheat evidently, and could improve the drought-resistance ability of plants from Bothriochloa ischaemun(L) Keng. The structures of them were identified by !H-NMR and MS. of them compoud HY-1 , HY-2, HY-5, HY-6, HY-7, HY-8, HY-10, HY-11, HY-12 and HY-13 had not been reported in literature.Bioassay experiments of these compounds were carried out, which suggested that all of these synthesized compounds were bioactive. They all can promote the growth of the roots of wheat evidently, and could improve the drought-resistance ability of plants. Forthmore, the effect to the compouds' activity of some substitute was inferred, and the relationships between the structure of thosecompounds and the activity were studied.
