China is a nation which has a great deal of mountain areas, mountain areas are vast, and after more than 30 years of reform and opening up, there is economic development of China's mountain areas, but the gap between the mountain areas and plains or coastal areas is vast, and economic development of mountain areas is slow, development efforts is not enough. Under the circumstance of financial crisis in the whole world and global warming, mountain areas are facing plenty of problems about economy, society and ecology, how to achieve rapid economic development in mountain areas and how to achieve sustainable development of protecting resources, optimizing Environmental and increasing harmonization in industries a matter of great public interest. The economic and social conditions in mountain areas which have a direct impact on the development of the whole nation closely linked with the development of our nation. If no development of mountain areas, there is no national development; No modernization of the mountain areas, there is no modernization of the country. To improve the income of peasants, to achieve well-off life and build a harmonious society, sustainable development of mountain area should be greatly paid attention to.There are 117,000 square kilometers of mountain areas which formed by Taihang mountain areas located in the western and Yan mountain areas located in the north, and the mountain areas accounted for 62% of the whole Hebei province. Taihang Mountain which located between Shanxi Plateau and Hebei Plateau is a big mountain, and it crosses the eastern part of Shandong Province, the western part of Hebei province, the western part of Beijing and the northern part of Hebei province from the northeast to the southwest. Taihang mountain areas which are one third of the total Taihang mountain areas and 22 percent of Hebei province located in the western part of Hebei province, and it is an important water conservation land to Beijing-Tianjin and North China Plain, also it is a significant base to the preservation of biological diversity. Taihang mountain area plays an irreplaceable role in protecting the ecological safety of the North China Plain and regulating the Beijing-Tianjin Water Resources, it is an ecological security screen to capital and the bohai sea area. So Taihang mountain area connects east and west, represents northern, around Beijing and Tianjin, its economic and geographic location creates an urgent need for sustainable development. But now development efforts in Taihang mountain areas is not enough, increasing the development of Taihang mountain areas and actively promoting the sustainable development of Taihang mountain areas has a special and important meaning to implement sustainable development strategy. After analysing the economic condition and development status of Taihang mountain areas, ecological footprint model is used to evaluate the sustainable development there, and conclusions are drawn that the per capita ecological demand footprint is more than the per capita ecological supply footprint , which show that the ecological pressure is tremendously high. In the short- term, to decrease the ecological deficit, we should use resource efficiently, and transit developing pattern in order to improve the capacity of ecosystem. Then analyzing the comparative advantages, limiting factors in the development of Taihang mountain areas of Hebei Province and the principles which should be followed, strategic choices in a long-range plan are proposed, strengthen the leadership of the government on the mountains; Continue to strengthen the input of capital, talent, technology; Based on comparative advantages, develop the specialized industries; Extending the industrial chain to enhance the competitiveness of products; Focus on the construction of"Yamaguchi"Town.
